Sacem members

Beyond France, Sacem’s members come from all around the world:

Sacem’s direct members are of 174 different nationalities.

Sacem’s strength lies in its efficient collective management model:

Over the decades, Sacem has built up a network with its sister societies in 97 countries.

Today, Sacem represents 100% of the world repertoire in France and has entrusted the task of representing its repertoire to 124 collective management societies throughout the globe.

Sacem also administers the online rights of many international partners:

More than 70 international publishers and 5 foreign collective management societies (Artisjus, Ascap, Komca, Socan, Ubc) have entrusted Sacem with the management of their online rights in up to 200 territories.

Sacem signs a representation agreement with a local company
In this case, it is the associated authors’ society that draws up the contracts with the music users in the country concerned, collects the royalties and sends Sacem the sums generated by the use of its repertoire.

Sacem then distributes the sums collected to its members. This representation agreement is usually reciprocal: each of the two authors’ societies represents the repertoire of the associated society in its own territory.

These agreements are based on the principle of equal treatment: Sacem members will be subject to the same rules as members of the local society for its territory of jurisdiction.

Reciprocally, it will apply the same rules to the foreign authors it represents on its territory as it does to its own members.

Sacem creates an agency or a company abroad
This is the case for example in Luxembourg, Monaco, Lebanon and French Polynesia. Sacem draws up contracts directly with the music users in the country concerned. It collects the royalties ans distributes them.

The challenges ahead

Technological, economic and cultural challenges are having an impact on the way music is created, distributed and consumed. Sacem is aware of these changes and has not forgotten its essential foundations: creation, anticipation and protection — underpinned by solidarity.

This is why it is committed to offering tailor-made, high-performance services that are in tune with the times, in an effort to build the Sacem of tomorrow.
